Spencer Nilsen, András Magyari, Brian Coburn, Attila Héger, Attila Dobos, Andy Armer, Tim Follin, Gábor Foltán, László Fazekas, Csaba Gigor, David Young, and Brad Kaiser crafted such a beautiful soundscape for these games, and the massive group of diversely talented musicians that have stepped forward to join us in paying tribute to these great aquatic themes is both overwhelming and deeply appreciated.
Once CeCe and I began thinking about how we wanted to follow-up our last compilation, Super VG Christmas Party, the unique ambiance of these soundtracks came to mind almost immediately. There's an undocumented "easy mode", accessed by entering "EASY." as password.“Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the entire series, or you only played for five minutes on your friend’s Sega Channel before quitting in a fit of rage, Ecco the Dolphin made a distinct impression on gamers across the globe with its unexpected, immersive, and haunting world of marine exploration, aliens, and time travel. There are two new levels (but they aren't that good): "Open Ocean 2" and "The Stomach" (the latter involves the final level, enough said). Dying in the final level doesn't send you back to the infernal penultimate level anymore. Enemies don't respawn by default (making rescuing the lost dolphins in "The Lagoon" quite pointless, because the reward for that is the anti-respawn ability). Some barrier glyphs act as checkpoints now, so you don't have to replay a level from the beginning after dying. At least one hint message was improved, helping the player. Fixes certain bugs and glitches (speedrunners, up your game!) It was never officially released, and is only surpassed by the Mega/Sega CD release, and the Windows PC version, the best version of Ecco 1 to date (see "Ecco PC: Fixed and Enhanced Edition"). This "Revision 01" is almost identical to the Japanese version, but in English. Several bugs were fixed, and the game was made quite a bit easier. After the original version had been released, the developers continued to improve the code for the following releases of the Japanese and Mega/Sega CD versions.
